Wilhelm Kautspiel was a German soldier who was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross for his services in the Battle of St.-Lo, one of few military personnel in the Wehrmacht who were awarded the cross posthumously. Kautspiel led a squad of German troops against an American-held manor house, assisted by a German tank, and was killed by American Thompson fire.
