Morosuke Shibayama was a Colonel in the Imperial Japanese Army who served as the commander of the IJA 135th Infantry Regiment during the Battle of Saipan. He was killed in action during the fighting.
Biography[]
Shibayama was born in Aki Province, Japan. He enlisted in the army in the early 1920s, and was enlisted as a Lieutenant in 1929. In 1933, he was one of the Japanese Army officers who fought in the Second Sino-Japanese War, and served in China until 1941, when he was transferred to the IJA 43rd Infantry Division's IJA 135th Infantry Regiment, which was stationed on Saipan, in the Marianas Islands. When the Battle of Saipan began in June 1944, he fought against the Americans with his regiment. During the battle, he was killed in action by US troops.
