German Roundel

The Latvian 13th Corps was a corps in the Latvian Army (Wehrmacht) that fought in World War II's Eastern Front. It had 10,000 troops in 1941, when it was created, but in 1945, all of those men were killed in action or wounded.

History[]

The 13th Corps was created in 1941 for Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the Soviet Union. The Latvian military authorized the creation of such a unit so that they could liberate their homeland from the Russians. The Latvian 13th Corps fought at Leningrad until 1944, when it was transitioned to Latvia once more, fighting in the Latvian Campaign (1944-1945) against the Russians. During Operation Vernichtung, it was destroyed in the wake of a successful Soviet offensive.
